Nahoum Cohen – New Paintings
Nahoum Cohen, also known by his pen name Nahoum Cain, is an artist and town planner based in Tel Aviv. His first one-person show was held at the Safrai Gallery, Jerusalem, in 1960. Cohen is not part of any artistic group. He has remained true to his main source of influence, German Expressionism. His diverse pursuits find expression in his paintings in themes such as urban life, views of Jaffa, images of hardship, sea views, and images of nature and animal life.
Cohen’s current show features paintings based on poems by the artist’s friends, Maxim Ghilan and Israel Pincas. Also on view are large clear-line drawings of a recurrent theme in Cohen’s oeuvre: birds in various human forms, as citation or paraphrase.
The painter Yair Garbuz will speak on opening night.
